Black Folx Wellness Collective is building a world where Black Folxs can be well.

Our Story

In February 2023, after nearly twelve months of freedom dreaming and planning, founder Stephon Bradberry sent a text to co-founder Royce Sarpy about an idea to start a yoga collective for, by, and centered on Black folxs. Coincidentally, the day this conversation began, Royce had just ended his job as an elementary school teacher. Since then, these two embarked on a journey to create space for Black Folxs to Be Well.

Soon after, they began talking with teachers in the DMV area to see if they would be interested in joining this new thing. Admittedly, the co-founders were just trying to get folxs free yoga, but soon realized yoga wasn’t going to get everyone. And so, they changed the name to the Black Folxs Wellness Collective right before launching the Summer Wellness Renaissance Program in collaboration with Be Great DC, a DC non-profit focusing on health & wellness, youth & education, and community engagement initiatives for the DC area.
Since our founding, BFWC has practiced with over 2,000 folxs in various yoga studios, community spaces, virtually and even at The Kennedy Center. Led by a team of visionaries, BFWC officially became a non-profit organization in 2024.
